Many years ago during yet another extremely hot and humid southern Ontario summer I remember telling my mother how much I hated having to endure the heat and stickiness. I ended my rant by saying that I should move somewhere cooler where breathing itself didn’t seem like a chore in mid July. Where the smog didn’t hover over the horizon like a dull brown haze for days on end in August. Somewhere cooler. Somewhere like, oh I don’t know, Norway.
Fast forward a fair few number of years and this Canadian finds herself living in a smallish town in the southwest of Norway.
I never expected to move over 5000 km to a different country but it’s been an adventure filled with excitement and not to mention an occasional dash or two of anxiety. And it continues to be so. This adventure started about 8 years ago and I continue to look forward to what it has in store for me each and every day.
I decided to start this blog not to only write about Norway and the experience of moving across an ocean, because others have already done it and will have done it better than I could. But to open myself up by sharing bits of myself to those who stumble across this blog. To write about my move to Norway, yes, but also about day to day things that capture my imagination, things that happen around me, people I come across and to detail my journey through this life I’m building in this country. I would love for you to find some aspect of that that resonates with you, some little bit that makes you chuckle or to read about my frustrations in trying to bring order to a neglected garden and have you feel better about your own less than green thumb.
I’m not an especially open person and tend to keep things private and close to the vest generally speaking. But I’ve made a conscious decision to change that, slowly and carefully. This blog is one step in doing that.
The last time I decided to take a chance and be open to new possibilities it lead me down a path I never expected.
